Through my study background in Environmental Geography and Indigenous histories & politics, I have come to believe there is a clear relationship between Australia’s extractive environmental legacies and the ongoing processes of settler-colonialism.
As a settler living on unceded Wurundjeri Country, I am excited by the opportunity Asha Woodworking represents to do business in ways that partake in a reparations process. To contribute, albeit in a small way, Asha Woodworking is a firm believer in the notion of ‘paying the rent’. (https://paytherent.net.au/whypay/)
Asha Woodworking is committed to contributing 5% of its profit to Black Duck Foods: “An Indigenous social enterprise committed to traditional food growing processes that care for Country and return economic benefits directly to Indigenous people”. (https://blackduckfoods.org/)
Asha Woodworking acknowledges all Aboriginal peoples and their continuing soverign connections to Country. With reverence I pay my respects to Elders past present and emerging. Soverignty never ceded.
